Give Democracy A Chance!

My favorite memory of the attacks of 9/11 was the President of the United States of America addressing the nation. It reminded me of past presidents. It brought to mind FDR addressing Congress after 12/7 (1941), "...a day which will live in infamy." George W. Bush told the American people to go shopping. I'm serious. Look it up. The entire populace was to go to the Mall and go shopping. This was our bit in the war on terror. We were not supposed to bother our dainty little minds with things like big, bad old Sammy B. Laden. We were to shop. Probably with the extra money from the tax cuts. In essence, leave the big work to the big guys: Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, Mr. Wolfowitz, Ms. Rice...the entire rougues gallery together with their enablers in the Congress who also gave up any meaningful role and went shopping. Now look where we have gotten to. After six years we are not only in a much tougher situation, we ourselves have committed crimes on a scale that even Sammy Bin Laden never dreamed of. In a democracy, the sleep of the people that form the nation gives birth to monsters! Give Democracy a chance!
