Waco War on Terrorism

Branch Davidian Pennant

It was 15 years ago February 28 that the siege at Waco, Texas began, pitting the US government against the Branch Davidians. It was our early experience with Terrorism and it was US Government Terror against its own citizens. The siege commenced February 28, 1993. Bill Clinton had been President for a short time so the plan had been in motion since George H.W. Bush's presidency. All the figures are coming together again: Bush, Clinton, Terrorism! Waco was a perfect setting for the horror. In 1916, a young black man convicted of murdering a white woman was lynched in the town square. In 2006, the Waco City Council officially condemned the lynching. It took 90 years. The siege of Waco ended in April 19, 1993 with the burning of the compound and most of the Branch Davidians. I mentioned in 2006 my talk with a Roman Catholic lady with whom I was discussing politics. She said that no matter what one says about the problems of the USA, we do not kill people who do not agree with us. This was the day after the remaining Branch Davidians who had not been burned were released from their 12 years in jail. I brought the Branch Davidians to her attention, and she became silent and thoughtful, then said in a low voice that she had forgotten that incident. We have never really left Waco station, have we, pilgrims?
