The Joy Of Text

I must learn the intricacies of text messaging. According to news articles coming out of Detroit, once you start texting, all manner of pleasures will come to you. The mayor of Detroit apparently is mixed up in a texting-love-perjury festival which defies description. I do know this much: once you learn the joy of text, all sorts of gingery lubricities will follow!

Ha. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs was just recently sacked, after weeks of increasing media frenzy, over some text messages he wrote to an "exotic dancer" - ostensibly, as he claimed, all "business". A magazine published them and he found himself without office the morning the edition was out. He is sixty. She is twenty-nine. He was asking what kind of underwear she wears and whether she "keeps her garden trimmed". There's no fool like a big powerful done-well-in-the-world fool, really - although traditionally, I am Nordic in my views on private lives being kept out of politics - even politicians' private lives. I mean, as long as they're not engaging in stuff that's clearly sicko-criminal.

Click on my name for an article in the International Herald Tribune, if you've missed the story.
