Avatarz!!!

There was a new image in the corner of my sight. Ruth has a new image. The rugged tree is gone, replaced by a pretty face. What is the name for such artwork? Does the term "collage" extend all the way to this? I grew up wondering why so many artists attending the Oscars were into collage work, only to discover that I was mixing up collage with "decolletage". This discovery did not affect me very much at all. I merely extended my viewing of works of art.

Well, you will notice that I did not include any decolletage in my temporary collage.

I had my beloved tree 4 1/2 years. I didn't think I'd ever say good-bye to it. It represents me, still. You know I have a mind of winter, and the bare bones of trees are such conduits of ministry.

Then I made this collage for a post. I had made a temporary collage of Michigan previously and found in that project something fulfilling and humbling. I guess taking a photo of these collages means they are not as impermanent as they pretend to be. What is really interesting to me is that there are elements in both collages, a couple of years apart, that are shared. The post is here:

After posting it, a couple of people said, We should all make collage self portraits. Wouldn't that be interesting? And a couple suggested it as my avatar. After thinking about it a few days, and whether I would feel too much loss of my precious tree (which happily is just a couple miles down the road, where I can observe it summer, fall, winter and spring), I decided to switch.

Thanks for noticing, but sorry it didn't mean a new follower. Just an old faithful, with a new look.

Oops, I see, looking back at that post I linked, that you had seen it and commented. Sorry 'bout that.

I had forgotten how interesting collage can be. I could look at it for a long time.
I have never been much of a music person, rather I listened and read words and stories and gazed for hours at images.I'm going to think about a collage self-portrait. I'll have to meditate on Max Ernst for a while.
