Ζει
pronounced  " zey "

" she lives "

The film  Z  by Costa Gavras may not be familiar with many of you, mainly because film is considered commodity entertainment : last night's news mentioned film by saying True Grit won the weekend box office sweepsstakes!
Z dealt with the rule of the generals in Greece, a period of cruel repression and lack of freedom. The generals came to power on the back of right-wing terrorism against the progressive elements of Greek society. Yves Montand played a Progressive politician who was mortally wounded  by a blow to the head. After his death, his supporters used the letter " Z " to be the emblem for their cause, the  " Z "  is pronounced "zey" which was the exact same sound as the form of the verb  "zei - he lives ".
