The Tea Party, Disaster Relief, and Voltaire : Écrasez l'Infame

Is the Federal Budget just like my budget? Or does it act like the coins that jingle in my pocket? Does the US Treasury have a George Costanza wallet like mine, one stuffed with old receipts that are so old their ink has faded, and they are nothing but a glossy white slip?

The Tea Party Thinks so.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's proposal for $60.4 billion in aid for states hit by Superstorm Sandy adds a huge new item to an end-of-year congressional agenda already packed with controversy.
Lawmakers from New York, New Jersey and other states had requested significantly more money, but generally praised the request Friday. They're urging Congress to adopt it without delay.
That's no easy task. Washington is laser-focused on the so-called fiscal cliff looming at the end of the year. And tea party House Republicans may demand budget cuts elsewhere to offset costs.   (Yahoo News)
This is exactly what Eric Cantor tried to do to Joplin, Missouri, when it was devastated by tornadoes. This also shows the complete idiocy of Romney's idea of returning FEMA to the States to administer. It is no longer dysfunctional when a government cannot handle disasters: it is a symptom of death....

The Congress is showing us that it will take our money, but when we suffer disaster, it will not help.
